What’s less common but still important is recognizing when a medication reaction might be related to MDR1 sensitivity rather than a true allergy. Breeders who test for MDR1 and share results with buyers are doing something valuable, even though it might seem like a minor detail. The mutation is common enough in Australian Shepherds that it’s worth knowing about, but not so severe that it should influence breeding decisions heavily.
